Anne-Marie Iselin receives Jacobs Foundation grant - Center Research Scientist Anne-Marie Iselin and Laura DiGuinta of Sapienza University of Rome recently received a Young Scholar grant of 80,000 Euros (about $106,000 USD) from the Jacobs Foundation. The project examines the mediating role of emotion regulation and social-information processing on the relation between parenting practices and children’s psychological adjustment. Researchers will gather data from American and Italian participants enrolled in the Parenting Across Cultures (PAC) study, which is directed by Associate Research Professor Jennifer Lansford. Iselin was nominated as a Young Scholar by her mentor, CCFP Director Ken Dodge.

Center researchers provide expertise for working groups on task force - Anne-Marie Iselin and Joel Rosch, research scientists from the Center for Child and Family Policy, have been serving on work groups for The Youth Accountability Planning Task Force throughout 2010. The task force completed its bipartisan study, issuing a final report on January 14, 2011, recommending that North Carolina youth who have committed minor crimes and are under the age of 18 be treated as juveniles, rather than as adults. (North Carolina is one of only two remaining states treating all 16 to 18-year olds as adults.) Iselin and Rosch were engaged in the entire process, actively participating in workgroups and making presentations. Under Iselin and Rosch’s supervision, Duke undergraduate and graduate students attended task force meetings and completed academic work related to task force activities. The Center also played an active role in bringing the issues to the attention of legislators. In 2007, prior to the establishment of the task force, the Center’s Director of Policy Initiatives, Jenni Owen, organized “Juvenile or Adult: Adolescent Offenders and the Line between the Juvenile and Criminal Justice Systems,” a Family Impact Seminar for legislators and legislative staff to discuss the key issues involved in the juvenile age debate.
