The primary goal of the Practice Core is to support and strengthen transdisciplinary research at Duke University on the prevention of adolescent substance abuse. The Practice Core provides resources and expertise that contribute to developing, implementing, and disseminating prevention research. Members of the Practice Core consult and, when appropriate, collaborate with Center investigators to ensure that new programs and strategies to prevent substance abuse can be tested successfully in community and school settings.
Goals
The Practice Core has four goals:
1. To help researchers translate multi-disciplinary research and theory on regulatory processes and peer influences into new efficacy and effectiveness prevention trials.
2. To secure opportunities to test prevention hypotheses in school and community settings.
3. To help develop interventions that are ready for implementation and dissemination in real world settings.
4. T o develop, implement, and test strategies to increase the likelihood that interventions reach appropriate practitioners and can be used at scale with fidelity.
